The WNO specialise in touring large scale operatic productions throughout England and Wales. General director is Anthony Freud. Musical director is Carlo Rizzi.

The 50th anniversary is on 15th/16th April 1996. There will be a major celebration in Cardiff.

The Rakes Progress: Igor Stravinsky, libretto by W H Auden and Chester Kallman. New production. Sung in English.
Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci: Double bill. Pietro Mascagni (Cav. Rust. and Ruggiero Leoncavallo (Pagliacci). New productions. Sung in Italien (English surtitles).
Faust: Charles Gounod. New production. Sung in English.
